The 2009/10 NHL Season is off and running and ticket holders watched as the Philadelphia Flyers got off to a big bang as the club signed of-troubled goalie Ray Emery to a 1-year contract and longtime Flyer Derian Hatcher retired and became the teams development coach. The team then looked to the draft where they selected Canadian Goaltender Adam Morrison who is currently in the WHL playing for the Saskatoon Blades. The team also picked up free agents Ian Laperriere (3-yr $3.5 million), Brian Boucher (2-yr $1.85 million), Ray Emery (1-yr 41.5 million) to name but a few.
The Flyers are currently sitting in 3rd place in the NHL Eastern Conference Atlantic Division
The 2008/09 season began with Head Coach John Stevens naming Mike Richards only the 17th team captain in team history. The team ended with a record of 44-27-11 and in 5th place in the Eastern Conference. In the playoffs, the Flyers met up with the Pittsburgh Penguins who eliminated them for the second consecutive year in six games.
